Time to Inbox

How long our email is on its way to the big mailbox providers, measured with real test messages.

The first measurements are still being collected

As soon as the test mailboxes at the providers are running, the delivery time per provider appears here.

How we measure this

Every five minutes we send a test message through exactly the route a customer message takes: SMTP delivery on port 587, our own sending nodes, then out to the internet. The message goes to a mailbox we run ourselves at each provider. We check that mailbox over IMAP until it shows up.

The time you see is the difference between handing the message over and it appearing in that mailbox. The line shows the median — the middle measurement — per block of 6 hours; “slowest 5%” is the value that 95 percent of the measurements stay under. We use the median and not the average, because one message that is held back for a long time would otherwise make the whole block look slow.

What this does not say

These are our own test mailboxes, with a history no customer list has. Whether your email lands in the inbox or in the spam folder depends on your reputation, your content and your recipients. A delivery time says nothing about that. There is no inbox placement percentage on this page either: such a figure comes from our own mailboxes and would always read as 100%.
